Hands on WW2 visits
Bring the Wartime Spirit into your classroom with a visit from one of our WW2 characters. Discover the events that lead to WW2 and the main players. Survive evacuation and rationing, make a gas mask and learn about what you could do for the war effort on the Home Front. We do not shy away from the tough questions, but aim to cover the effects of war in a child appropriate way, which takes into consideration children whose families, or themselves, have been affected by conflict.
The map on the right shows the area where we can offer Prehistoric Stone Age workshops at our standard rate. We can offer workshops outside this area at an additional cost.
Workshops can be run individually, specialising on a particular topic, or as an overview of the period as a whole. Topics covered could include:
- A soldier’s life – warfare and weapons from the Second World War
- Causes of World War 2: never underestimate the power of a grudge
- We can do it! Women in factories, farms and fighting behind the lines
- Chronology and timeline
- Heroes and villains: Hitler, Churchill and the world stage
- Make do and mend: household life in Britain during the war
- Keep Calm and Carry On: what would you do if you were invaded?
- Where in the world..? Geography and landscapes of the war; deserts, mountains and jungles
- Turn that light out! ARP wardens, Dad’s Army and the Home Front
- Evacuation; a new life in the country?
- Dig for victory! Could you grow your own food?
- Rationing and recipes – only one egg a week!?
- Wartime spirit: how hardship brought a nation together
- The Science of war. Inventions and discoveries – rockets, medicine and computers
- What next? How the war and its aftermath still affects our lives today.

What we do:
- Bring a wide range of accurate replica artifacts
- Dress up as a historically accurate character for the day
- Provide a bespoke timetable that fits with your particular learning objectives
- Supply equipment and specialist materials for our activities

Break
- ‘Superveg’ activity with Potato Pete & Dr Carrot!
- Build your own mini Anderson shelter!
Lunch
- “Dig for Victory” garden plan
- The Battle of Britain – ‘Spitfire Scramble’
What we need:
- A Hall
- At least two staff members and a minimum of one for every 30 children
- A couple of tables to display
- A place to get changed
- Suitable parking close to the hall
